The Muntet group was formed in 2014 from the desire to create their own music and to convey the feeling of freedom through improvisation and jazz. The material covered is mainly influenced by traditional jazz, with explorations that start from ballads and extend to the modal area and free jazz.

Alex Munte – saxophone tenor

Alex Munte started his musical journey in an instrumental brass band. He collaborates with musicians such as Albert Tajti, Octavian Scurtu, Adálbert Cserkesz or Petra Acker and participates in 2013 at the “International Jazz Festival” in Sibiu, as a trio, together with Dávid Szederjessi and Adrian Neacșu, where he is awarded the title of “Best Instrumentalist Award”. The same year, he performs at the “Jazz and More” festival, alongside Michael Acker, Sian Brie and Polish drummer Michal Trela. A year later, together with Ana-Cristina Leonte Quintet, he records his first album – “Secret Lover”, presented at Bucharest Jazz Festival 2014. The same year, he forms the group Muntet in Cluj.

Alex Cos – guitar

He started his musical rise at the age of 14, flirting with different musical styles in different established formulas in the sphere of Romanian music. He performed at festivals such as Dorna Art, Basm Fest or Street Delivery, being present on the Romanian underground music scene alongside Theory of Mind and Beats Remedy as a founding member. Starting from 2014, he plays gigs with artists like Ana Munteanu or Victor Stoica, and in 2020, he joins the Muntet group.

Michael Acker – bass/double bass

Having Saxon origins, he grew up in a rich musical family environment and later attended the Jazz Section of the National Music University in Bucharest. In his freelance activity, he had the opportunity over time to collaborate with a large number of established musicians both from and outside Romania, such as Mircea Tiberian, Nicolas Simon, John Betsch (USA), Tony Miceli (USA), István Gyárfás (Hungary), Mathias Jardim (Brazil), Ellie Wright (Austria) or Eamon Dilworth (Australia). He has participated in most of the important music festivals in the country and is considered one of the reference bassists of Romania. At the moment, he lives in Vienna where he performs with established musicians, such as Mathias Jardim, Joander Cruz or Erik Asatrian.

Sergiu Fănică – drums

Passionate about music as a small child, he started imitating drummers like Mitch Mitchell (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) and Bill Ward (Black Sabbath). Over the years, evolving as a musician and discovering different genres of music, began to be more and more attracted to the element of improvisation and the fusion of music genres. In 2011, he initiated the hip-hop and jazz project “Beats Remedy” in Cluj-Napoca and laid the foundations of the electronic jazz project “Voyager II”, in which he produces, composes and sings live with Eamon Foreman in the UK. Sergiu Fănică is also active in other free jazz projects with saxophonist Martin Clarke, and in Cluj, with saxophonist Alex Munteanu.
